Why You Must Update Your Nominee, Mobile Number and Email in Your Demat Account

Three small details in your demat and trading account can make a big difference: your nominee, your mobile number and your email ID. Keeping them updated protects you today and your family tomorrow.
1. Nominee: protect your family
If something happens to an account holder without a nominee, the family may have to go through a lengthy legal process (succession certificate, legal heir documents) to claim the shares and funds. With a registered nominee, the transfer process is much simpler.
- You can add more than one nominee and split percentages between them.
- You can change your nominee at any time.
- Opting out of nomination requires a specific declaration. Most investors are better off adding one.
2. Mobile number: get alerts directly
Exchanges and depositories send transaction alerts directly to your registered mobile number and email at the end of each day. If your number is outdated or belongs to someone else, you won't know about trades in your account.
Prevent unauthorised transactions in your account: Update your mobile numbers/email IDs with your stock brokers. Receive information of your transactions directly from Exchange on your mobile/email at the end of the day. Issued in the interest of investors.
Your OTPs for pledges, e-DIS (selling shares) and logins also go to this number.
3. Email: receive your statements
Your contract notes, the monthly Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) from NSDL/CDSL and important notices come by email. Check your CAS every month to make sure your holdings are correct.
How to update them
Open the Angel One app and go to Profile → Account details. Update the nominee, mobile number or email, then verify with OTP and e-sign where required. Changes are usually reflected within a few working days.
Stay safe
- Never share your password, OTP or UPI PIN with anyone, including people claiming to be from your broker.
- Use only your own mobile number and email, not a relative's or agent's.
